Kolkata 31st December, 2022: Markazi Taleemi Board, New Delhi in collaboration with Institute of Policy Studies and Advocacy organised a two-day workshop on education and the minority budget of states.

This workshop was organized at Seva Kendra, Kolkata from 31st December 2022 to 1st January 2023. This physical workshop was part of training the volunteers of four states for data collection, data entry, and documentation of state education and minority budget.

The workshop attempted to cover key concepts of budgeting, actors involved in the process of Union and State budget, ways for advocacy, data politics, conceptual and theoretical understanding of budget and related things, the introduction of education and budget, major schemes of the education budget, background and introduction of minority budget and all the schemes of the minority budget, practical demonstration of reading Union and State budgets, demonstration of basic statistical calculation with regards to the key values/numbers of various state and central schemes. In the practical sessions, the resource persons engaged the volunteers/participants on how to access the budget documents of the state governments of West Bengal, Bihar, Telangana, and Rajasthan.

The workshop ended with nine different tasks of reading various official documents of the government in the coming days and completion of the data entry process by the end of the January 2023. Prior to this physical workshop, MTB and IPSA facilitated and organized eight online training session on understanding of the above-mentioned core topics related to education budget with regular and rigorous exercises. Eminent economist Dr. Javed Alam Khan was the key resource person along with Dr. Manjur Ali (academic and expert of Development Studies). Dr. Manjur Ali joined the workshop online. Janab Salimullah Khan (Asst. Secretary of MTB) and Sadat Hussain (Research Assistant of MTB) assisted the resource persons in smooth conduct of the workshop.
