Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – Dr. Mohammed Abdul Saleem, a renowned dental surgeon and distinguished member of the Indian expatriate community in Jeddah, has officially been appointed as the Chairman of the Indian International School, Jeddah (IISJ). The announcement was made following a formal ceremony held on Monday, where Dr. Saleem took over the leadership of the institution, succeeding Dr. Hemalatha Mahalingan. Dr. Mahalingan made history as the first woman to serve as the head of a community-run Indian school in Saudi Arabia.
With a rich history spanning more than five decades, IISJ, established in 1969, is one of the largest and most prestigious Indian community schools in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It serves the educational needs of over 10,000 students from the Indian expatriate community and is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Dr. Saleem has been an active member of the school’s management for several years, and his appointment as chairman is expected to bring further growth and progress to the institution. Under his leadership, IISJ is poised to continue its legacy of delivering top-quality education while upholding the values of community service and development.
“I am truly honored to take on this responsibility, and I look forward to working with the dedicated staff and management to ensure that IISJ continues to excel in providing the best educational opportunities to our students,” said Dr. Saleem after assuming his new role.
Notably, IISJ is recognized for being one of the first schools in Saudi Arabia to introduce Telugu as an optional language for students, showcasing its dedication to cultural inclusivity and diversity.
